Qatar announced its first arrests of World Cup ticket sellers on Monday, November 15. Three foreigners were detained in connection to that.
“three people of different nationalities” were arrested and now face criminal proceedings, the intervention ministry reports.
The ministry released a statement on Twitter connected to the criminal act. However, they did not specify the nationalities of those arrested, they only stated that the men were caught “reselling tickets” outside “official outlets.”
The statement also said those arrested could face fines of up to 250,000 riyals ($68,000) for each ticket they were found to have sold.
The Qatari government and Football federation body, FIFA repeatedly warned about fake World Cup merchandise.
Authorities had seized of 144 counterfeit World Cup trophies in the past week.
