Messi has written his name permanently in the book of Greatest Footballers of all time by leading his country, Argentina to the finals and beating France to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In a highly competitive and emotionally tense game, Argentina won over France to claim the World Cup title, for the first time in thirty-six years.
In a keenly contested tournament, Argentina earlier took the lead with 2 goals: a penalty scored by Messi and a goal by Angel Di Maria in the first half. However, the France team responded with a penalty scored by Kylian Mbappe and a quick smash in the 81st minute, just a minute after scoring the penalty.
Messi scored with his right foot in the half time of the extra time, Mbappe equalized in with a penalty kick at the 118th minute, leading to a 3-3 tie, and eventually leading to a penalty shootout.
Kingsley Coman’s penalty was saved by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. France’s Aurelien Tchouameni missed his penalty, while Gonzalo Montiel of Argentina scored the winning penalty for Argentina closing up the football mondial.
Messi has become the only footballer in history to ever win every award available in football.
